Chelsea are claimed to have failed in an attempt to sign Gonzalo Higuain from Napoli last month.
The Argentine international has been in spectacular goalscoring form this term, firing himself and his side to the top of the Serie A goalscoring charts and league table.
Napoli sit ahead of Juventus by two points currently, while Higuain sits pretty on 24 league goals, ahead of Paulo Dybala of Juve, who has netted only 13.
It is now emerging that Chelsea made an attempt to sign the former Real Madrid man, but their manager refused to promise that he would start ahead of Diego Costa in the centre-forward role.
Arsenal have long-been linked with a move for the 28 year-old, and would not have liked to have had to line-up against one of their most coveted targets.
