Leicester City’s bid for Rod Fanni has collapsed after the club and player fail to agree personal terms, reports the Daily Mail. The 32 year old had been lined up as an experienced option by Nigel Pearson, as he attempts to guide the Foxes to top flight security next season.
The France international had been allowed to leave Marseille for a small fee, and had also been training with Leicester in order to increase his fitness. Despite a close relationship being forged between the two parties, however, the deal to bring Fanni to the King Power Stadium has stalled after disagreements about his contract.
The player has been linked with moves to England throughout his career, but has never come as close to completing a transfer. Pearson had earmarked Fanni as ideal cover for Matt Upson, who is another of the Foxes new recruits this year. Although the manager has stuck with much of the squad which won him promotion out of the Championship last year, there has been a recent emphasis on bringing top level experience into the club.
Leicester are still progressing with their shock move to bring Argentine legend Esteban Cambiasso into their side, whilst 30 year old Pablo Alvarez has also been lined up as another option. Having ground out a two-two draw with Everton on the opening day of the season, Pearson is not about to opt out of further transfer dealings.
