Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is keen on signing Cardiff City centre-back Steven Caulker in the summer, reports the Daily Mirror. Rodgers had Caulker on loan at his previous club Swansea City, and is hoping that he can convince the England international to reunite with him at Anfield.
Liverpool feel that they need more defensive cover as they gear up to play in the Champions League for the first time since 2009, and believe that Caulker will be an easy target to acquire if Cardiff City fail to beat the drop this season.
The former Tottenham centre-back though has also attracted interest from White Hart Lane again, and could be poised for a return to North London as Spurs have a first option clause included in his contract with the Bluebirds.
The 22-year old has been impressive this season for Cardiff City, scoring 5 goals in 36 appearances for them so far. He was signed for 9 million pounds by the Welsh club last summer, and is likely to cost Liverpool a fair bit of dough as 50 percent of any profit on his sale will reportedly go to Spurs.
Rodgers reportedly has plans of recruiting another centre-back with European experience as he is set to prepare his squad for their Champions League adventure next season, and it will be interesting to see who the Northern Irishman will be able to bring to Anfield after suggesting that the Reds could attract players of a higher calibre this summer.
