Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has shocked fans by claiming he will not be bringing in another striker in the coming window, the DailyStar reports.
The Reds have struggled heavily with injuries to his attacking options this term, with Danny Ings out for the season, Sturridge having suffered his fourth set-back, and Christian Benteke also having been sidelined during the campaign.
Despite the regular changes been forced on his line-up, Liverpool boss Klopp is denying that he is looking to bolster his forwards in January.
He said: “We have Christian Benteke, Divock Origi and Roberto Firmino,” he said.
“Of course, we also have [Danny] Ingsy but he’s not available at the moment. It’s a situation I can work with.
“If you take a new player, a striker, who can help you immediately, when the day comes and Daniel is back in the race and maybe better than before – more confident and fitter than before – then we will sit here and talk about all the problems we have with all of these players and how they didn’t play and so on.
“I am not like this, sorry!”
Liverpool had been linked with potential moves to sign Mauro Icardi from Inter Milan, as well as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Klopp’s former side Borussia Dortmund, with the Gabon international having been in exceptional goalscoring form in the Bundesliga this term.
The German has also been linked with a possible raid on his former club with captain Mats Hummels said to be unsettled at present.
