Manchester United have been linked with a move for Stoke’s Ryan Shawcross in the upcoming transfer window, according to the DailyStar.
The Red Devils are actively seeking defensive options to sign in the upcoming window, having had to use their reserve squad at centre-back for much of the current campaign.
Philip McNair and Tyler Blackett have been given their senior débuts this season, and Louis Van Gaal will be desperate to sign up some more experienced players to help shore up their defence.
Shawcross was previously with Man United as a youth player, and failed to make an appearance in the Premier League despite not leaving before he turned 20.
The Old Trafford club are thought to have installed a buy-back option in his sale, and are now believed to be interested in following through with that clause.
Shawcross has been a constant in the Stoke side since he joined them in 2007, originally on loan, and is now their club captain. He has only managed the one England cap, but was in their squad for two of the World Cup qualifiers two years ago.
