Manchester United are claimed in the Mirror as having been rebuffed in their attempt to sign Sadio Mane this month.
The Red Devils have been in dire form in the past six weeks, winning only one of their last nine fixtures, and are expected to invest in their struggling squad.
United are now said to have failed in a bid to sign Mane, with Southampton rejecting their enquiry about his availability.
Southampton have told the player, and his potential suitors, that he will be staying put until the end of the campaign at least.
The Manchester club are said to have been hoping to complete a £30 Million deal this month, but are now expected to have to battle for his signature at the end of the season, with Chelsea and Bayern Munich keen.
The winger netted an impressive 10 goals last term, and has continued that form with three goals in his 20 appearances so far in the current campaign.
