Manchester United are keen on signing Aston Villa’s Ron Vlaar, according to the Mirror.
Man United are actively seeking defensive options in January, and Vlaar is the latest centre-back the Red Devils are looking at.
The Dutch centre-back is into his last 12 months of his contract at Villa Park, with the player and club rumoured to be far from agreeing a new deal.
United are thought to be interested a cut-price deal, having spent heavily in the transfer market over the summer. With Financial Fair Play regulations to abide by, they will need to start restricting their spending, but with no European football at present, re-qualifying for the Champions League is their priority.
The Dutch international worked with Louis Van Gaal in Holland’s World Cup campaign, in which they came third, and is expected to have impressed the new Man United manager with his exceptional performances, and one of few players who played every minute of their campaign.
