The Metro claims that Manchester United are set to fend off Real Madrid in the race to sign Lucas Biglia from Lazio.
The 29 year-old looks set to be central to a tussle between European giants Manchester United and Real Madrid, with Liverpool expected to struggle to compete with the two Champions League sides.
The Red Devils are said to be leading the chase, with the club prepared to pay £2.45 Million a year in order to seal his arrival, compared to Real’s £2.1 Million.
United signed Morgan Schneiderlin and Bastian Schweinsteiger during the summer, but with Michael Carrick a possible departee in the coming year, another defensive midfielder could be needed.
Marouane Fellaini is also in the squad and able to play in the holding role, but is struggling for regular football currently, and it would not be a shock to see him head for the exit door before next season either.
