Arsenal’s out-of-contract international defender Bacary Sagna has another club to add to his lengthy list of admirers, with Manchester United joining the hunt for his much sought after signature to provide competition with Brazilian right-back Rafael.
Arch-rivals Manchester City are also understood to be interested and are in advanced talks regarding a £100,000 a week contract, however United are said to be prepared to match, and better, City’s offer and have been in contact with Sagna and his representatives over the past 48 hours.
Should the Frenchman opt for Old Trafford it is likely he will become Dutch manager Louis Van Gaal’s first signing following his prospective appointment. Choosing United over City will surely endear Sagna to his new supporters immediately, especially considering he is also departing from another of United’s major rivals in Arsenal.
So far during his career Sagna has played for Auxerre and Arsenal, featuring in over 300 games and amassing 39 caps internationally, including France’s catastrophic 2010 World Cup campaign.
