The agent of Manchester United and Arsenal target Ron Vlaar has admitted that his client is eyeing up a big move when his contract expires at the end of the season.
Vlaar’s performances at the 2014 FIFA World Cup with the Dutch national side caught the attention of many big sides, and it was thought he could have made a move during this summer immediately after the tournament.
Aston Villa are determined not to sell however, and may even hold on to the experienced defender beyond January. Some had thought that Vlaar was even prepared to be loyal and sign a new contract with the Midlands club, however with the team languishing in 16th in the league table and looking like they will be focusing their attentions on the bottom half of the table rather than the top half once again this season, it seems that Vlaar is ready to move to a team with their eyes on bigger prizes.
Vlaar’s agent, Arnold Oosterveer, told the Dutch media, “It is obvious that for Ron, now is the moment to make a nice big move in his career. Ron is very ambitious. The situation is ideal for Ron right now.
“You can imagine that we are not in a hurry. I don’t want to react to the rumour that he will go to either Arsenal or Manchester United, but Ron is very ambitious.”
While those comments do not confirm that Vlaar will definitely move to either of the Premier League clubs that have been most strongly linked with him, it does almost certainly rule out a contract extension at Aston Villa.
