French money bags Monaco are set to pour cold water on the hopes of Tottenham Hotspur, who have been hopeful of bringing Fulham forward Dimitar Berbatov back to White Hart Lane this season. Reports in The Daily Mail have revealed that the Bulgarian is on the verge of an exit from Craven Cottage, whilst adding that he wouldn’t join Spurs again and would now be moving to Monaco.
The Ligue 1 giants have been in desperate need of an offensive signing this season, after having lost star forward Radamel Falcao to a knee injury for the rest of the season. The club have also offloaded Lacina Traore to Everton for the remainder of the season and it had been believed that they would be making moves for the likes of Manchester United’s Javier Hernandez and/or Southampton’s Dani Osvaldo.
However, as present reports suggest, the French side are viewing Chicha’s former teammate as a more viable short term option and are almost on the verge of bagging him.
Meanwhile, the reports certainly spell disappointment for Spurs, who were reported to be keen on signing Berbatov to curb some of their offensive problems. The reports also means that Arsenal would lose out on the chance to sign the player, who despite their lack of recent interest, might have become a potential target on deadline day.
