Queens Park Rangers put pen to paper on their first official summer transfer earlier this week, as Rio Ferdinand signed a one year deal at the club. However, according to talkSPORT, the defensive strengthening at Loftus Road will not stop there, and Redknapp now has agreed terms with Cardiff City over Steven Caulker.
The centre-back was a stand-out performer for the Bluebirds last season, despite their eventual tumbling out of the Premier League. As a result, Caulker has been linked with many of England’s best teams, including Liverpool and Southampton.
QPR had looked to be favourites to sign him, and the Hoops using the prospect of playing alongside Ferdinand as a persuasive tool appears to have been a deciding factor. ‘We’ve agreed a fee with Cardiff. It’s just about getting the deal over the line with Steven now,’ Redknapp told talkSPORT. ‘If Steven comes, he really wants to play with Rio. I think that will be a big thing for him to come and play alongside Rio,’ continued Redknapp, as he explained the pull factor that Ferdinand possesses.
