Swansea City are the latest Premier League side to form transfer ties with Napoli, as Garry Monk looks to bring into his squad Federico Fernandez. According to reports in the English press, the centre-back is disgruntled playing under Rafa Benitez, and would favour a move away from Italy and to the Premier League.
The Argentine international began the World Cup as a key part of his South American side, before being ruled out of the tournament’s latter stages by injury. However, he does not receive regular first team opportunities at Napoli, and has become frustrated as a result. The 25 year old has been in and out of the starting XI for the past 2 seasons, even being sent out on loan to Getafe at one point to make sure that he remained fit.
The player might be brought into the Liberty Stadium as a direct replacement for Chico Flores. Flores has clashed with Garry Monk in the past, and could be headed out of the club before this, Monk’s first full season in charge.
The Swans are reportedly prepared to pay £8 million for the Napoli man, which would represent a significant purchase for the Welsh side. Reports suggest that Celtic’s Virgil van Dijk is also on the club’s radar, but Fernandez is thought to be the top priority.
