Arsenal and Manchester United are set to go head-to-head as they attempt to bring Sergi Samper in from Barcelona, the Star reports.
The 20 year-old is rated highly across Europe, and is even claimed to be the best youngster to emerge from the Barcelona academy over the past years.
Despite such heavy praise, his club are yet to give him his debut in La Liga, although he has picked up four Copa Del Rey outings and a Champions League appearance.
The Spanish wonderkid is believed to have a low £8.5 Million release clause in his current deal, which Arsenal have been said to be looking to trigger, but the Red Devils sent a scout to watch him feature against Villanovense in the Spanish cup, which ended up finishing 0-0.
United are also claimed to have been looking at 19 year-old Wilfried Kaptoum, who played alongside Samper in the heart of midfield.
Louis Van Gaal is said to be keen on leaving a strong legacy of young stars when he leaves the club, and could be tempted to sign the pair in the coming window.
