Arsenal and Manchester United target William Carvalho has revealed that he will not be leaving Sporting Lisbon on transfer deadline day, reports Sky Sports. The Portuguese midfielder had been linked with a move to the Premier League before the summer ends, but a transfer no longer looks likely to come about.
Carvalho was most heavily linked with a move to Arsenal initially, as Arsene Wenger has been searching for a holding midfielder this summer. However, the player has also been linked with a move to United within recent weeks, as Louis Van Gaal appears short of top quality centre midfielders. Judging by Carvalho’s latest comments, however, he is not likely to be leaving Sporting for anybody else this summer.
‘I have a deal with Sporting and I am a player of Sporting,’ said Carvalho. ‘My present is this club and I am feeling very good with Sporting,’ continued the player, ‘It really has not entered my head to leave Sporting on the last day.’
A seemingly conclusive assessment of his situation, Carvalho is still likely to move away from his current team at some point in his career, if not this summer. The 22 year old already has 6 caps for the Portugal national side, and has a reported £37 million release clause in his current contract. It had been expected that Sporting would accept a lower offer for the youngster, but his immediate future now looks to rest in Portugal.
