Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger refused to blame Gabriel for his role in the club’s loss to Manchester United at the weekend.
The Red Devils came away 3-2 winners, thanks to a brace and an assist from 18 year-old Marcus Rashford, and Gabriel has come under criticism for his role in the goals.
Wenger has moved to pin blame on any one single player, claiming a team collective is needed to improve their situation, but did admit the Brazilian was struggling due to problems learning English.
The Frenchman said: “I would prefer him to have better English,” Wenger said.
“In a fraction of a second sometimes somebody can help you.
“He has Nacho Monreal who plays next to him, he can speak Spanish. I believe as well he’s working very hard on his English and he’s improving quite quickly.
“It’s difficult for me to go into individual assessments of performances. We have to respond as a team and not criticise individually players for their performance.”
