The Metro are reporting that Arsenal are ahead of their rivals in the chase to sign in-form striker Gonzalo Higuain from Napoli.
The Argentine striker was heavily linked with a move to the Premier League in the summer, but his club stood firm, refusing to sell for any less than his release clause.
Higuain was forced to stay put, and has scored seven goals in nine Serie A matches to help his side to within two points of league leaders Roma, whilst also sitting joint-top of the goalscoring charts.
The striker is once again being linked with a move, although Napoli’s hierarchy are unlikely to willing to budge on their valuation, which will mean he is likely only available should a team come forward with the £67.7 Million needed in accordance with his contract.
The Gunners are claimed to be his most likely destination should a move come-about, although they will not be the only ones monitoring the situation.
Manchester United and Chelsea have also been linked with his signature previously, and the latter are in desperate need of a spark to kick-start their campaign, as they drift further and further away from the all-important top-four.
