Arsenal are on the verge of being frustrated as the transfer window draws to a close on Monday, as the Gunners’ midfield target Adrien Rabiot could be headed for Roma instead, reports Goal. The 19 year old is on his way out of Paris Saint Germain, but he is looking more likely to join the Serie A rather than the Premier League.
Rabiot has been linked with a move away from the French capital for a number of weeks, ever since he refused to sign a contract extension with PSG. The club and the player could not agree personal terms, and he has been at the exit door ever since. Arsenal might have considered themselves as forerunners to sign the starlet, but Roma look to have stolen the advantage now.
The PSG president was on hand to speak about the emerging situation, linking Rabiot with a move to last season’s Premier League runners-up. ‘We want to think about it for a few more hours,’ said Nasser Al-Khelaifi, ‘but it’s possible that Adrien leaves PSG for Roma.’
Rabiot is a product of the PSG youth academy, and he made his debut for the club in 2012 at the age of 17. However, due to the very stiff competition in the French side’s midfield, Rabiot has failed to establish himself as an undisputed starter with the Ligue 1 champions, and has decided to transfer away from the club as a result. His current contract had been scheduled to run out next summer, but it looks very likely that it will be terminated on transfer deadline day of this year.
