Mario Balotelli is ready to make his Liverpool debut against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, as the Italian will be up for selection by Brendan Rodgers at White Hart Lane, reports the Express. Balotelli completed a £16 million switch from AC Milan to Anfield earlier this week, and could make a return to Premier League action against Spurs.
The Balotelli deal was finally completed on Monday afternoon, leaving it too late for the striker to feature in the Reds three-one loss to league champions Man City. The controversial character has since joined up with his Liverpool teammates in training, however, and is set to start alongside Daniel Sturridge next weekend.
When asked about the 24 year old’s availability, Rodgers provided a positive response. ‘ I think by the weekend [he will be available],’ said Rodgers, ‘He’s been into pre-season and he’s played three 45-minute games. He might not be up to full match speed, but he’s looking fit.’
Balotelli has been drafted into the Reds’ side as a replacement for Luis Suarez. The Uruguayan striker left Liverpool this summer as part of a £75 million move to Barcelona, paving the way for fresh attacking talent to be added to the squad. Rickie Lambert was brought into the fold at an earlier point in the summer, but Balotelli is the marquee signing that the Kop was calling for. Having impressed during his time at Manchester City, Liverpool fans will hope he can continue to perform well in the Premier League for them.
