The Mirror is claiming that Chelsea are looking at replacing Diego Costa with Napoli’s Gonzalo Higuain.
The Brazilian-born Spain international has scored only two league goals so far this season, compared to the 10 he had by this date last year.
The majority of his squad have been under-performing this term, leading his manager Jose Mourinho to urge owner Roman Abramovich to allow him to overhaul the squad.
Higuain has now emerged as a possible replacement for Costa, with current options Radamel Falcao and Loic Remy yet to show the manager they are ready to fill his boots.
The Argentine striker has scored 11 goals in all competitions so far this term, helping his side to keep pace with league leaders Fiorentina, who have a two point lead over his side, who sit in fourth position.
Napoli are unlikely to entertain the star’s sale however, and any move by Chelsea would likely have to match his release clause, believed to be set at £67 Million.
Arsenal have also been linked with a move for the Azzurri striker, as they look to bring in some competition for main striker Olivier Giroud.
