Watford manager Quique Sanchez Flores has urged David De Gea to stay with Manchester United, the DailyStar reports.
The Spanish manager worked with De Gea with Atletico Madrid previously, and is credited with being the first coach to give him his debut.
Flores followed his former player to England this summer, joining Watford to become their fifth manager in a twelve month period.
The Hornets boss has now claimed that he believes the former Atletico goalkeeper is the best shotstopper in the world, and that the Premier League, and Manchester United, is the perfect fit for him.
Quique Flores said: “It would be perfect for the Premier League for him to stay a long time and it would be perfect for him.”
“I gave David his debut,” the Watford boss said. “He was third-choice keeper and after one month he was first choice.
“He was amazing. You just need to focus on the training and watch how he is taking the ball and handling it.
“For me he is probably the best goalkeeper in the world. He has everything. He can control everything.
“I got a present when we separated after two years it was a gold pocket watch. Of course, I still have it.”
Flores did not want to continue talking about his opposition, in fear of provoking an more confident performance, but revealed he was looking forward to a reunion following the final whistle.
He joked: “We have a very special relationship but I don’t want to talk about him too much, it will boost his confidence for Saturday!
“I’ll speak to him after the game. It’s not good for my players to see me hugging one of the opposition before kick-off.”
Real Madrid were close to agreeing his signature on deadline day, before final pieces of the paperwork failed to be completed on time, and he has since signed a new long-term deal with the Red Devils.
