The Barcelona midfielder Alex Song has suffered a turbulent summer during which his future has been difficult to foresee. However, according to reports in the English press, the player would most like to move to Liverpool next year, with the Reds taking an interest in him.
The former Arsenal man has also been linked with a move back to the Emirates Stadium, although Arsene Wenger is not said to be keen on the idea. The Frenchman only sold the layer 2 seasons ago, and he has developed his team without Song since then.
On the other hand, Liverpool are said to be interested in the player, who could be available for a reduced rate seeing as Barcelona are so keen to shift him. Song is likely to be brought into the Reds’ set-up to act as a third-choice centre-midfielder, behind Steven Gerrard and Jordan Henderson. Given that Liverpool will be competing in the Champions’ League this season, Song will provide them with strength in depth and extra European experience.
A loan move to AC Milan has also been mooted for the player, but it has been put on hold in the hope that a move to Merseyside can be finalised. Song is said to prefer the prospect of returning to the Premier League above the possibility of moving to the Serie A, and has identified Liverpool as the club at which he would like to make that return.
