Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has confirmed Sergio Aguero will miss Saturday’s trip to Chelsea following a freak injury.
The Argentine striker was in the back of a cap in Amsterdam on Thursday night when it crashed, causing Aguero to suffer a broken rib.
Aguero has scored six goals in the opening six Premier League matches to start the 2017-18 season and is only one goal shy of Manchester City’s all-time goalscoring record.
Manchester City travel to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea on Saturday evening, as co-leaders of the Premier League with Manchester United.
Chelsea sit three points below the top two and were away in Madrid on Wednesday night for their 2-1 win at Atletico in the Champions League. This was 24 hours after City were comfortable 2-0 winners at home against an easier opposition; Shakhtar Donetsk.
However, City will have to make do without Aguero this weekend as his manager confirmed that the injury rules him out.
Guardiola said: “He cannot play against Chelsea on Saturday.”
It is expected that Guardiola will go with Gabriel Jesus up front on Saturday. The Brazilian looked impressive there at the end of last season but has been reduced to more of a left wing role in a 4-1-4-1 formation.
Switching Jesus to the striker role means the impressive Leroy Sane can start down the left wing up against Victor Moses.
Sane has three Premier League goals from out wide this season despite only starting twice in the Premier League.
Chelsea versus Manchester City takes place on Saturday 30 September 2017 at 17:30 GMT.
