Juventus midfielder and Manchester United summer transfer target, Arturo Vidal, has suffered a fresh knee injury whilst representing Chile recently, reports the Daily Mail. The player was forced to pull out of a routine training session with his country, as the South American side prepare for games against Mexico and Haiti.
The player had been a major transfer target for Manchester United this summer, but the Red Devils look to have had a lucky escape. The problems with Vidal’s knee were common knowledge during United’s chase of the player, it was just a case of whether Louis van Gaal was prepared to take the risk. In the end, Vidal never arrived at the club, which might be a blessing in disguise.
The 27 year old underwent knee surgery at the back end of last season, and played throughout the World Cup with fitness concerns. Juventus will have hoped that the worst was over in terms of their £35 million man and his knee, but it looks as though the problems have resurfaced.
United turned to some other big names in the end, as they looked to revive their fortunes this summer. Instead of Vidal, van Gaal brought into his squad Angel di Maria and Radamel Falcao. Though the two are different types of player, they represent a comparable, if not more notable star-power, as Old Trafford looks to raise its profile to where it once was.
