Prolific Man United target talks up exit ahead of January window

Mario Gomez has revealed he does not want to return to Fiorentina, the Metro reports.

The 30 year-old has been linked with a move to Manchester United in the coming window, with a possible reunion with former boss Louis Van Gaal a possibility.

Gomez worked with the Dutch boss whilst at Bayern Munich previously, scoring 29 goals in 56 league appearances under the current United boss, before he was sacked before the end of his second season in charge.

The striker now finds himself out on loan with Besiktas, and is enjoying a return to form in Turkey, having scored eight goals in his 11 league outings so far this term.

Gomez has now stated he does not wish to return to his parent club, which reports in Spain have twisted to claim is because of the supposed interest from Man United.

He said: ‘After two difficult years, I feel very good in Istanbul and do not want to return to Fiorentina.’

The reality is that his quote actually points to him wanting to stay in the Super Lig with Besiktas.
