Boca Juniors have confirmed that they will allow Jonathon Calleri to leave the club at the right price in January, TalkSport reported.
The Argentine striker has been linked with moves to Chelsea, as well as Stoke City, in the coming window, after an impressive season in which he netted 21 league goals for his club.
The Blues could now be set to follow up their interest with a bid, having received positive feeback.
The Boca president Daniel Agelici said: “He could be sold at Christmas as there are good offers and we don’t want to stand in his way.
“But at the moment, no deal has been closed, and there is only chatter.”
The Blues have struggled to live up to the high expectations they set last season, having led the Premier League almost from start-to-finish, to currently occupying 15th place.
Chelsea’s current options up front have only bagged four league goals between them, and the club are expected to try and rectify that in the coming months.
Radamel Falcao has been heavily speculated to be having his loan deal cut short, having failed to make an impact on the first-team squad so far this season.
