Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Lewis Holtby has admitted that he might be forced out of the club before the transfer window closes, reports the Independent. The 23 year old believes that he may have to leave Spurs in order to give himself more first-team opportunities elsewhere.
Having moved to Tottenham in 2013 and making 25 appearances for the North London side, the player was pushed out of the Lilywhites for the last part of last season when he was sent on loan to Fulham. Since then, he has failed to break away from the peripherals of Mauricio Pochettino’s plans, and is believed to have become frustrated with his career as a result.
Speaking about his current situation, Holtby said, ‘We’re just going to have to see what happens in the next few days and weeks.’ The player continued, ‘I’m a young player and I want to be playing all the time,’ before finishing, ‘Preferably, I would stay here with Tottenham of course and that’s why I really hope that I get a chance.’
For Holtby the decision is a difficult one because he would prefer to stay at Spurs. However, whilst he had been hopeful that things would change upon the appointment of Pochettino at White Hart Lane, the situation has not bettered for Holtby personally under the new manager.
The German international is one of many emerging midfield talents available at Tottenham, and he has struggled to claw his way up a competitive pecking order. If a transfer is to come about, however, the club will have to move quickly as the window closes in 3 days time.
