West Ham United completed the signing of Morgan Amalfitano with just ten minutes left to spare on transfer deadline day, reports the BBC. The midfielder who spent last season on loan at West Brom will now help Sam Allardyce’s side to improve their fortunes in the Premier League.
The player leaves Marseille on a one year deal, and hopes to establish a starting position for himself at the Hammers. Amalfitano generated a reasonable reputation during his spell at the Hawthorns last year, particularly after an impressive solo goal against then-reigning champions Manchester United, and he will hope to build on that this season.
Allardyce has been under pressure all summer to buy some attacking talent for the Upton park squad, and Amalfitano is another example of that emphasis. He is a strong player, but he also has good technical ability, and he can score a goal or two.
It is believed that he could not turn down the chance to move to the Boleyn Ground, especially because of his spell in the Premier League last year. A division that he would prefer to stay in, Amalfitano appears very happy that a transfer was finalised to take him out of Ligue 1. ‘I enjoyed my first year in English football and for that reason I have come back and hopefully I can improve again,’ he said.
