What next for controversial king of twitter Joey Barton?

Joey Barton may not be the best footballer in the world, but he sure has made a name for himself in the twitter-verse.
The troublesome midfielder spent the last season on loan at Marseille and is keen to return to Ligue 1 for the new campaign too. Barton though still has two years left on his contract with Queens Park Rangers but is on excessively high wages believed to be to the tune of 70,000 pounds a week.

The twitter king is happy to tear up his contract with the Hoops but the Daily Mail reports that he has asked them for a settlement fee believed to be in the region of 3 million pounds, just under a year’s salary.

Marseille can’t really afford Barton’s wages either, but are ready to offer him a contract at 30,000 pounds a week, which would more or less cover up his losses for leaving QPR.

Ladbrokes is offering odds of 1.33 on Barton moving to the French side versus odds of 3 of him staying on in London with QPR. A return to Newcastle United is a long shot at odds of 11.
